Richard Branam 1926-2011

 

Richard Earl Branam, 84, of Bloomington and formerly of Washington, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday morning, Nov. 15, 2011, at Garden Villa in Bloomington. Richard was born on December 13, 1926, in Bloomington and was the son of Earl and Ina (Sims) Branam.

Richard graduated from Canterbury College and obtained a Master's in Education from Indiana University. He retired in 1987 from Washington High School, where he taught Health and Drivers Education and had served as Athletic Director. He was the Junior High Basketball Coach at Washington High School during his time there as well. Prior to moving to Washington, he taught and coached basketball at Dugger, Van Buren, Stinesville and Monrovia Schools. He attended Mt. Pleasant Christian Church in Stinesville and was a member of the Washington Country Club and the Civitan and Kiwanis Clubs in Washington. He was an Army Veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his son, Curt Branam of Bloomington, and sister Jo Ann Smith (Dave) of Bloomington.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 54 years, Anna M. (Bingham) Branam, who passed away in October 2010.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third Street, Bloomington. Pastor David Wiggington will officiate. Entombment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at The Funeral Chapel. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.pdcfuneralchapel.com.
