Herbert Potts 1925-2005

 

Herbert Winton Potts, 80, died at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at Prairie Village Living Center.

Born Sept. 18, 1925, in Montgomery, he was the son of Ross Winton and Mary Elizabeth (Hayden) Potts.

A 1943 graduate of Montgomery High School, he also graduated from Indiana Central College in Indianapolis in1952, and Indiana University in 1962. He received a private pilot's license in 1972. He worked for W.E. Hauser Construction Co. from 1948 to 1954, taught at Plainville High School from 1954 to 1958, Worthington-Jefferson High School from 1958 to 1964, and Washington High School from 1964 to 1989. He was a member of Glendale Masonic Lodge 461 where he was secretary/treasurer for many years, was past director for RSVP program, member of Indiana State Retired Teachers Association, and former secretary/treasurer of Oak Grove Cemetery-Reeve Township.

He is survived by sisters and brother-in-law, Margaret Beadles of Washington, Linda and George Schifano of Newburgh, Mary Annette Bryan of Washington, and Carol K. Ragsdale of Bedford, Tex; brothers and sisters-in-law, Orris R. Potts of Cumberland, Curtis and Lavon Potts of Washington, Robert F. and Donna Potts of Princeton, and Leslie and Mildred Potts of Washington; and 19 nieces and nephews. One sister, Phyllis Marie Potts, and one brother, Lowell E. Potts are deceased.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gill Chapel, with Rev. Frederick Kane officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Reeve Township. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.  (Dec. 14, 2005)
