Hazel Gill

 

Hazel Ida Gill, 85, formerly of 1719 Bedford Road, died at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, at Emerald House. Born Aug. 1, 1921, in Vona, Colorado, she was the daughter of Fred and Ada (Helderman) Adams.

A 1939 graduate of Vona High School, she was also a graduate of Colorado State Teachers College and received her master’s degree from Indiana University.

She was a retired home economics teacher, teaching first at Montgomery and later for 38 years at Washington High School.

A member of First Baptist Church, she had been a Sunday school teacher for 30 years and a member of the choir for many years. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Indiana State Teachers Association, Classical Club, and a 4-H Leader for 25 years. She had been under the care of Vista Care Hospice.

She is survived by a sister, Helen Schuetz of Washington; one niece and her husband, Judy A. and Mel L. Robinson of Washington; one nephew and his wife, Jerry L. and Joyce L. Schuetz of Washington; seven great nieces and nephews; 25 great-great nieces and nephews; and two great-great-great-nephews.

Her husband, Robert Gill, whom she married May 30, 1948, died March 12, 1994. One brother, Wayne Adams, is also deceased.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Gill Chapel, with Rev. Tim Baxter and Rev. William Malott officiating. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 10 a.m. Thursday until time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
