Ronald "Ron" Maurice Frette, 93, of Washington died at 7:03 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at Daviess Community Hospital.

Born April 17, 1917, in Paxton, Ill., he was the son of Rasmus J. and Ida J. Natterstad Frette. On Oct. 1, 1939, he married the former Anna Marie Noland and moved to Daviess County. She survives.

He graduated from Paxton Community High School in 1935 and received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education from the University of Illinois in 1939 and later completed his M.S. and Ed.S. from Indiana University.

During his life, he was very active in the community. He began his career in Odon, where he taught until 1943 and then transferred to Washington High School, teaching agriculture, science and health. He also served as assistant superintendent and acting superintendent for Washington Community Schools.

Besides teaching for 40 years, he served two terms as Daviess County Auditor, past president of the Indiana Vocational Agricultural Teachers Association, a 4-H leader for many years and was an announcer for 4-H livestock shows since 1950. He also was active in the American Cancer Society, the YMCA, a lay leader at Christ United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday School superintendent for many years and served on numerous committees for the church. A designated Sagamore of the Wabash by Gov. Robert Orr, he was a Kiwanis member for many years, involved with numerous agricultural committees and activities over the years, mentored nearly 50 agricultural students from Purdue University who were prospective agricultural teachers and was a Daviess County Farmer for many years.

Ron and Ann are the parents of five sons, Richard D. Frette of Swansea, Ill., and Gerald A. "Gerry" (Ruth Helen) Frette, David R. (Deborah) Frette, Steven K. (Jane) Frette and Mark E. (Annette) Frette, all of Washington; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and they all survive.

He was also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Karen Frette; sister, Elaine Walters and three grandchildren.

A celebration of Ron's life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Christ United Methodist Church, 104 N. Meridian St., the Revs. Dean Stuckey and Lennie Lawrence officiating. Entombment will follow in Sugarland Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church.
