Roger G. Williams, 74, of Navarre, Fla./Bloomington, Ill., formerly of Washington, Ind., passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at 10:45 p.m., at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

Roger was born on Sept. 8, 1939, in Plainville, Ind., the son of Stanley and Violet Ruth Christenberry Williams. He married Joyce Doades on June 22, 1963, in Washington, Ind.

Roger did his graduate and postgraduate work at Purdue University and was a life long educator and superintendent in southern Indiana and was a life long member of the United Methodist Church.

Roger was passionate about his gardening, family genealogy, music and especially spending time with his family and friends.

Roger is survived by his best friend and wife, Joyce; their three children, Pamela (Daniel) Dickerman of Truckee, Calif., Melissa (Garrett) Rinehart of Bloomington, and Kendall (Theresa) Williams of Bloomington. Roger was a proud grandfather of six grandchildren, Stephanie, Samuel, Lana, Jacob, Owen and Tyler. He is also survived by two sisters, Charlotte Koning and Shirley (Dean) Workman, both of southern Indiana. He is preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at 11 a.m., at Calvary United Methodist Church, Normal, Ill., with the Reverend's Larry Ray and Timothy Gutknecht officiating. Visitation will be Friday, May 30, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Calvert and Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, and also one hour prior to service at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Purdue University School of Agriculture, James P. Clause Foundation, or to the American Cancer Society. Calvert and Metzler Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
