Miss Sylvia Catherine Orr, 77, 811 W. Main Street, Washington, Indiana, died at 4:14 a.m. Monday,  November 13, 1989, at the Daviess County Hospital. She was born Feb. 22, 1912 in Daviess County to Owen and Lucretia Cynthia Davis Orr.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Gill Chapel with Pastor James Payton officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

As a Spanish teacher, she introduced her naive and sheltered students to the magical yet bewildering concept of people speaking languages other than English, and many of her Spanish students fondly remember starting each of her Spanish classes by saying in unison, "Buenos Dias Seniorita Professora Orr. Como esta usted?"

She was a member of Central Christian Church, Daviess County Humane Society, Classical Club, White River Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Indiana State Teachers Association, American Association of University Women, National Education Association, and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Surviving are two nieces and eight nephews, Mrs. Cathy Baumert, Washington, Ind., Mrs. Carol Holland, Bruceville, John Arnold, Lincoln, Neb., Thomas Arnold, Brooklyn N.Y., James Arnold, Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, Owen Orr, Charleston Air Force Base, South Carolina, Lloyd Orr, Melburn, Fla., William Orr, Idaho, Charles Orr, North Pole, Alaska, and Robert Orr, U.S. Air Force, South Dakota.
