Victor William Dicanio, 89, Washington, died at the Daviess County Hospital Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, at 9:12 p.m.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Gill Chapel with the Rev. Steven Kaetzel officiating. Interment will be at Sugarland Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and after 9 a.m. Sunday until service time. American Legion and VFW will present the flag.

He was born on Sept. 16, 1907 in Passaic, N.J. to Nicholas and Nancy (Talimeno) Dicanio. He married Dicie Evans on March 6, 1931 and she survives.

Dicanio was retired from the teaching profession after 38 years. He was an attendance officer, vice principal, principal and Assistant to the Superintendent of the Washington Community Schools. He was a Christ United Methodist Church member. He received a B.S. degree from Central Normal College; Masters degree from Indiana State College; attended Indiana University and attended Wichita University.

He served in World War II in the Army. He was a 50-year Charity Lodge #30 F & AM member and was also a member of the Washington Chapter #92 R.A.M.; Washington Council #67 R.& S.M.; Washington Commandry #33 Knight Templer; Hadi Shrine; Past Exalted Ruler, Elks Lodge and Past Trustee, American Legion. He had also served on the Selective Service Board; Washington City Council; Board of Governors, Daviess County Hospital; Vice President Washington Community Association; Past Democrat County Chairman; State Board of Education, Textbook Division and Harned Home, Inc. member.

He is preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Christ United Methodist Church or Harned Home, Inc.    (Feb. 19, 1997)
